Kimani Ndung’u
Kimani Ndung’u is the founder of Ndung’u Attorneys. He holds an LLB from the University of South Africa, and an LLM (International Law) from the University of Cape Town. He initially studied for an LLB at the University of Nairobi in Kenya, until July 1996.
Kimani has worked for many leading civil society organisations in South Africa including the Human Rights Research and Advocacy Project of the National Association of Democratic Lawyers (1999-2000), the Centre for the Study of Violence and Reconciliation (2001-2002), the Freedom of Expression Institute (2002-2005), the National Labour and Economic Development Institute (research arm of the Congress of South African Trade Unions-COSATU) (2006-2012 & 2013-2015), and the Foundation for Human Rights (2012-2013).
Kimani has also consulted for a wide range of local, regional and international organisations including the South African Human Rights Commission, ABC Ulwazi, the Media Institute of Southern Africa and the Swedish International Development Agency.
Given his wide expertise in the fields of social research, freedom of expression, labour and human rights in general, Kimani has written and published many research reports and articles in these areas, and made a number of legal and policy submissions to institutions such as the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC) and the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa. Kimani served his articles at Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) from January 2016 until June 2017. He was located in LHR’s Detention Monitoring Unit which deals with monitoring and intervention- often on an urgent basis- in the detention of asylum seekers, refugees and migrants in South Africa.
He was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in September 2017, and obtained his certificate of right of appearance in the High Courts of South Africa in November 2017.
Peter Ndebele
Peter Ndebele matriculated in 2002 with law subjects as majors. In 2006, he completed a National Diploma in Marketing at the Pretoria Technikon before embarking on law studies at the University of South Africa (UNISA). He completed his LLB in 2016. He is currently pursuing an LLM in property law at UNISA as well as a Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law at the University of the Free State. In 2016, Peter attended and completed the full-time, 7 months’ course on Practical Legal Training at the School for Legal Practice in Johannesburg.
Peter is the Business Development Manager of Sherock IT Solutions, a company which he founded in 2006. He was a part-time tutor at UNISA in 2013, and a legal intern at Lawyers for Human Rights in Johannesburg for a year between 2017 and 2018. He is currently a legal intern at Ndung’u Attorneys where his responsibilities entail consulting with clients, preparing court papers, and the serving and filing of court processes.
